Plan a Austin trip

Austin splits its golf along the Balcones Escarpment: west of town the Hill Country tilts the ground — Barton Creek's four resort courses, Falconhead, the Lakeway corridor — while the prairie north and east carries the value daily-fees a group can actually book online. The marquee tier hides its rates behind resort packages and pro-shop phones, the muni-and-daily tier is some of the cheapest good golf in a major metro, and every evening ends in a town built on barbecue and live music. Spring and fall are the windows; summer is cheap for a reason.

The courses, graded

Tiers are our editorial call: what's worth the green fee versus filler. Constraint badges are researched facts.

The Austin daily-fee that actually publishes its rates: a links-style prairie layout in Hutto with risk-reward water holes and a reachable par-5 18th, cart and range balls folded into the fee. Not the Hill Country postcard - it is the dependable anchor round you can book online seven days out while the marquee tier hides behind resort packages.

When to go

Spring (Mar–May) and fall (Oct–Nov) are the prime windows — driven by heat and humidity, not frost. July–August highs run 96–98°F with midday rounds widely called inadvisable, but June–August brings the lowest fees and wide-open tee sheets for sunrise starts. Bermuda greens aerate in early August and heal by September; winter is playable on dormant turf with rare frost delays.

Getting around

AUS is a real hub — 200+ daily flights, 75+ nonstop destinations — 20 minutes from downtown. One SUV per foursome; the courses split along the escarpment, so a Barton Creek base keeps the Hill Country side close and puts the northeast dailies 45 minutes out.

Where to stay

The Omni Barton Creek is the golf basecamp — the four resort courses are on property, southwest of town. The Lakeway / Lake Travis hotel corridor is the value play for the western courses, and Round Rock's chain hotels sit closest to the northeast daily-fees.

Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa

The Barton Creek basecamp - all four resort courses are on property, and the trip that wants the marquee Hill Country golf stays where the golf is. The Legacy package folds a round into the stay.

Legacy Golf Package: one round per guest, per stay, on any of the four championship courses, plus a Fazio bag tag. Golf rates are otherwise unpublished - the pro shop is the route.
