From mid-June to mid-September, northern Michigan is as good as American golf gets: Arcadia Bluffs hanging 200 feet over Lake Michigan, Forest Dunes' reversible Loop an hour east, wine-country evenings on the Old Mission Peninsula, and 10 p.m. summer sunsets that make 36-a-day feel easy. The season is short - which is exactly why it's special.

The courses, graded
Tiers are our editorial call: what's worth the green fee versus filler. Constraint badges are researched facts.
The Loop
PremiumDoak's reversible course - 18 greens played clockwise one day, counterclockwise the next. A genuine one-of-one in world golf; play both directions or you haven't played it.
Par 70 · 6,805 yds
Forest Dunes
PremiumA Weiskopf stunner in the Huron National Forest pines that top-100 panels adore. Pair it with The Loop for the best 36-hole day in the state.
Par 72 · 7,141 yds · Slope 146 · Rating 75.2
Two hundred feet above Lake Michigan with sightlines to the horizon on nearly every hole - the closest the Midwest gets to an ocean links. Sunset dinner on the veranda is non-negotiable.
Par 72 · 7,300 yds · Slope 146 · Rating 75.7
Belvedere Golf Club
StrongA 1925 classic in Charlevoix that architecture nerds make pilgrimages for - Walter Hagen called it one of his favorites. Limited visitor windows; call ahead.
Par 72 · 6,715 yds
The terraced-fairway brute that hosts the Tour every summer. Bring your A-game and a sense of humor about the moguls.
Par 72 · 7,078 yds · Slope 150 · Rating 76.1
When to go
Mid-June to Labor Day is prime: 75–82°F, low humidity, daylight until 10 p.m. Late September brings color and value. Everything shutters by late October - this is strictly a summer book.
Getting around
TVC connects through Chicago/Detroit/Minneapolis. You'll drive real distances - Arcadia is 50 minutes, Forest Dunes 90 - so build course clusters by day.
Where to stay
Grand Traverse Resort is the full-service base; downtown TC hotels and lake cottages fit groups that want the restaurant row; Arcadia Bluffs has limited on-site rooms worth grabbing for the sunset night.
