Plan a Traverse City trip

From mid-June to mid-September, northern Michigan is as good as American golf gets: Arcadia Bluffs hanging 200 feet over Lake Michigan, Forest Dunes' reversible Loop an hour east, wine-country evenings on the Old Mission Peninsula, and 10 p.m. summer sunsets that make 36-a-day feel easy. The season is short - which is exactly why it's special.

Calendar warningNational Cherry Festival (early July) jams Traverse City lodging for a week.

When to go

Mid-June to Labor Day is prime: 75–82°F, low humidity, daylight until 10 p.m. Late September brings color and value. Everything shutters by late October - this is strictly a summer book.

Getting around

TVC connects through Chicago/Detroit/Minneapolis. You'll drive real distances - Arcadia is 50 minutes, Forest Dunes 90 - so build course clusters by day.

Where to stay

Grand Traverse Resort is the full-service base; downtown TC hotels and lake cottages fit groups that want the restaurant row; Arcadia Bluffs has limited on-site rooms worth grabbing for the sunset night.
