TPC Scottsdale's Stadium Course is the round your group came to Scottsdale to play. It's the home of the WM Phoenix Open, the loudest week on the PGA Tour, and outside of tournament season you get to walk the same fairways in silence — with tour-grade conditioning that justifies the premium green fee.
The course is a Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish design at 7,261 yards from the tips, playing to a par 71. It's not the hardest course in the valley, but the combination of the famous 16th hole amphitheater, immaculate conditioning, and the knowledge that tour pros play this exact layout every February makes it the marquee experience round.
What Makes It Worth Playing
The 16th hole. Full stop. The par-3 "Colosseum" is surrounded by the largest temporary grandstand structure in golf — 20,000 seats that sit empty when you play, but the scale of the amphitheater is striking even without the crowd. It's the most recognizable hole in Arizona golf, and it plays differently than you'd expect from TV.
Beyond the 16th, the Stadium Course rewards accuracy over distance. The fairways are generous by resort standards, but the greens are firm, fast, and well-guarded. Course management matters more than length off the tee.
Booking and Access
TPC Scottsdale is a public-access resort course, but booking requires planning:
- Public window: Tee times open exactly 90 days out via the TPC online tee sheet. Peak morning times sell quickly — book the moment the window opens.
- Resort advantage: Fairmont Scottsdale Princess guests book before the public window. If your group wants guaranteed prime times during January–March, a stay-and-play package through the resort is the most reliable path.
- WM Phoenix Open blackout: The course closes for roughly three weeks in late January through mid-February. Plan around this if your trip falls in that window.
Course Strategy
Play the course in the 6,400–6,800 yard range unless your group regularly breaks 80. The back tees stretch to 7,261 yards, but the design rewards shot placement over raw distance. Greens run fast — plan to leave approach shots below the hole. The par-5 15th is the birdie opportunity before the theatrics of 16 and the difficulty of 17 and 18.
Pace of play runs 4:15–4:30 during peak season. The course marshals keep things moving, but expect a full field.
